Russ Wilcox named an unchanged eleven from the side victorious in the Emirates FA Cup seven days ago, but it was a side that had eight changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Stamford before losing on penalties. Aaron Simpson retaining the captain's armband, while Will Lancaster, fresh from signing his contract in midweek, started at the heart of the defence, alongside Ashley Jackson & Sisa Tuntulwana.

Trinity were again quickly out of the traps, with Declan Howe intercepting a mis-placed pass, before squaring for Southwell to score his first of the season. Punishing the visitors as they looked to play out from the back Dylan Wharton had to be alert, and was commanding his box well. Coming to claim a number of Samuel Bailey centres, Also diving full length, to deny Aaron Bennett from distance. That really Lancaster's only real effort on goal, in a toothless first half for the Dolly Blues.

Stepping out from the back, Tuntulwana found Howe in space on the right. Continuing his run into the box, Howe picked out the rangy Sisa who brought out the best in the 'keeper. Tuntulwana's swashbuckling style earning him plenty of admirers amongst the Trinity faithful.

The Holy Blues then built well down the left, a move involving Ashley Jackson & Dayle Southwell ending with Lewis Butroid firing over from the edge of the box - not quite able to keep his effort down.

Half Time: Gainsborough Trinity 1 Lancaster City 0

The second half started and finished brightly for Gainsborough, as a clever corner found Fraser Preston. His improvised finish striking the cross bar. Moments later Howe stooped under a centre and Preston couldn't find the target, but the flickers never really fully ignited, with the boys in blue unable to penetrate McClenaghan's goal - again.

And with that, momentum switched. A succession of corners were defended by the hosts. Jack Byrne saw a powerful drive turned over by Dylan Wharton, but eventually the pressure told, with Sam Bailey's corner headed home at the back post, by centre back, Harrison Beeden.

Soon after, the dangerous Bailey was then able to drive forward down the right, his ferocious hit was parried by the impressive Dylan Wharton, but Dom Lawson bundled home from close range - completing the turnaround.

Having gone behind, Trinity made a quadruple change, Dylan Cogill striking the outside of the post with his first touch. Another of the subs, Joe Stacey combined well with Declan Howe, the striker seeing his effort well blocked.

Bobby Johnson fizzed an effort whistling wide of the post - and Aaron Braithwaite curled narrowly wide from the edge of the box, as all of the substitutes looked to get amongst the action.

Tuntulwana then cut in from the right, onto his left foot, sending in a low stinging effort, that McClenaghan gathered at the second attempt, with Howe lurking

Deep into added time, with the final kick of the game, Howe saw a great chance go begging. Lifting over McClengmaghan's bar from a yard out. With the Dolly Blues playing for time, as Trinity threw everything at the visitors, Stacey got himself into a dangerous crossing position, only to be halted for a 'head injury'.

Restarting with an uncontested drop-ball - Stacey delivered the centre - but Howe's telling touch was uncharacteristically missing. And with it... the full time whistle brought an end to proceedings.
