Midway through the first half, Oliver Harrison opened the scoring. Powering home Brendan Daniels' corner. His unmarked header coming as the hosts had began to exert some sustained pressure. Porter and Curl firing narrowly off target, before Josh Render did well to see an effort round the post when he would have been unsighted until the last moment. Ollie Shenton's effort, smartly saved.

Leek were doubling up down the flanks and getting some joy. Particularly as Alex Hurst hugged the left hand touchline, allowing Tom Curl to come inside. But it was Curl who's next contribution was telling, defensively. Five minutes after conceding, Lewis Butroid’s corner was met by Sisa Tuntulwana - and with Dino Visser beaten - Curl was in the right place to block the giant centre back's goal-bound effort - on the line.

Aaron Braithwaite looked to drive the Holy Blues forward, on the half hour, working the ball out to Fraser Preston on the right, before continuing his run. As Preston looked to pick out the former Grimsby man on the edge of the box - the midfielder was met by a strong block

As the half time whistle drew closer, Braithwaite and the infectious Helliwell both had efforts on goal, the first blocked by Harrison, before the former Barnsley youngster saw his follow up comfortably smothered by Visser. Deep into first half stoppage time, Butroid headed Tuntulwana's high, hanging centre straight at Visser, as Trinity were unable to find an equaliser before half time.

Half Time: Leek Town 1 Gainsborough Trinity 0

Starting the second half, in much the same vein as the first half ended, Visser was called into action. Declan Howe raced away down the left hand side and selflessly looked to square for the supporting Preston. Preston was forced too far wide- but managed to fashion himself a shooting opportunity, cutting back inside, where he found his shot blocked by the 'keeper and behind for a corner, to the Blues.

Braithwaite was looking to pull the strings, threading the ball through for Howe. Trinity's leading marksman raced away but his right footed rising effort flashed half a yard wide of post and bar. Tuntulwana was starting to creep forward. As he looked to provide an outlet for the yellow shirted-Holy Blues. Seeing his first cross blocked, he was more determined. Opting to keep the ball in the box, Sisa put a dangerous ball into the centre, and there was Butroid to guide the ball home. No less than the visitor's deaerved for their start to the second half.

At the other end, Hurst worked an angle to cross. Finding the head of Ollie Shenton - but the Leek number ten couldn't keep his headed effort on target. Shortly after equalising, Cogill replaced Ash Jackson. And the centre back was soon into the action, marshalling Harrison well, allowing Render the opportunity to come and collect.

Render was again called into action, when Brendon Daniels didn't catch hold of his strike- the effort - all be it on target - was dealt with comfortably by the Trinity number one. The Holy Blues continued to press forward, looking for a winner, and moved the ball a lot better, with youngster Jordan Helliwell regularly involved, in and out of possession, whether that be breaking up play, or getting Gainsborough on the front foot.

Liam Edwards picked up a yellow in stoppage time for delaying a Gainsborough restart, and the Holy Blues punished this misdemeanor in ruthless fashion. Tuntulwana hurled the ball into the box, and centre back Lancaster deftly flicked the ball past the stranded Visser to break home hearts.

The visitors seeing out the remainder of added time to move on to seven points, ahead of the arrival of Worksop Town on Bank Holiday Monday. One that looks a cracker on paper - and one that deserves a bumper crowd, to showcase the Northern Premier League! Let's have as many down at the Kal Group Stadium, where the gates are open from 1.30pm!
