Trinity's flashy, new, Patrick pre-season kit was on display. A slightly 'loud' neon pink number, with Paddockwood Forge emblazoned across the front - it will certainly have Gainsborough standing out from the crowd! With this shirt set to act as a third kit too, should the need arise, there could be a few more opportunities yet to see Trinity donning the fluorescent pink number.

As well as the aforementioned new recruits, boss Wilcox was also using this game to run the rule over a multitude of trialists, alongside the good number of retentions from the back end of last season's successful finish. Many changes at the break, disrupted the flow of the game.

Declan Howe, last season's top scorer, wasted little time getting off the mark for the new season. He was a menace from the first minute and may well have been wrapping up his hat-trick when eventually did open the scoring. A calm finish after showing great strength to hold off his man.

On the stroke of half time, Lewis Butroid added the second, giving Trinity the breathing room their performance somewhat warranted. If not the finishing. Wilcox's men had consistently gotten into good positions, but the end product was lacking.

Half Time: Club Thorne Colliery 0 Gainsborough Trinity 2

Despite the first half watching brief, the number of trialists entering the fray during the second period really made any true patterns difficult to gauge.

Cody Collins saw a thumping header cleared off the line - the closest Trinity came in the second period, while ten minutes from time, at the other end, Club Thorne launched a slick counter attack, Callum Verhees striking the upright, serving as a reminder for the Holy Blues.

Registering a clean sheet, and the victory, are certainly positive signs from the first outing of pre-season. A base line, a bunch mark, and somewhere for the side to begin.

There were some talented individuals on show during the second period, but would the boss want to take another look, as the games come thick and fast. With this one being pushed back, due to the rain on the original date, Trinity now have a run of three games in five days.

Next, away at Bottesford Town on Saturday, before we host Scunthorpe United on Tuesday evening. Our first home game of the pre-season campaign.
